“This Wednesday morning, attacks and disturbances were reported between two groups of people at one of the entrances to the industrial plant of the Cruz Azul Cooperative City,” the State Security Secretariat said in a statement.
The Hidalgo Attorney General’s Office “carries out the processing of the place to determine the number of deceased and injured people,” the bulletin added.
Cementos Cruz Azul is a cooperative society owned by the workers.
The confrontation, which occurred at dawn, would respond to a dispute over control of plant managementlocated in the municipality of Tula.
Starting at dawn, using rockets and the factory’s whistle, active workers were summoned to defend the facilities from the attempted takeover by workers from a dissident group, in a lawsuit that has lasted more than two years, according to local sources.
Both dissidents and active workers were armed with pipes, rods and sticks, but also with firearms, according to witnesses quoted by the Mexican press.
For now, the facilities remain calm after the entry of state security forces.
