Dejan Babic was beaming from ear to ear after his HC Linz AG’s 32:31 home win over Bregenz on Tuesday evening. With the 1-1 equalizer in the “Best of 3” quarter-final series, the seven-time champion forced a decider that will follow tomorrow in Vorarlberg (6.30 p.m.).
Although Lucijan Fizuleto (nine goals) from Linz was voted man of the match, some in the team would have given this award to Babic (five goals) – because of his commitment. As his number 22 jersey was torn in a fight with the Bregenz defense giants, the Serb ended the game with number 19. This was not the first time. “It’s his fifth Leiberl that he destroyed this season,” says club manager Uwe Schneider with a grin. “Nobody else has a body consumption like Babic.” According to Schneider, who is considering packing a replacement jersey for Babic in the future, Babic is representative of the high level of commitment with which the people of Linz are going about their work this season.
HC Linz is offering a fan trip for tomorrow’s decisive game, for which there are still places. Registration by e-mail at office@hclinz.at
