Municipality and HTL Vöcklabruck cooperate

The HTL Vöcklabruck and the municipality of Vöcklabruck want to intensify their cooperation. This was decided by Director Gernot Weissensteiner and Mayor Peter Schobesberger at a meeting.

“We are ready to contribute our expertise to the energy optimization of the municipality,” announces Weissensteiner. In concrete terms, he is thinking of diploma and final theses by schoolchildren, in which concrete savings measures are explored. Schobesberger, who graduated from HTL himself and worked as a technician before being elected mayor, sees great potential for savings. “The city consumes 2.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity and more than three million kilowatt hours of heat every year,” he says. “There’s a lot to think about. For example, are our water tanks filled up when the solar power plants on our roofs are active, or does that happen at night using Czech nuclear power?” The HTL wants to find answers to these and other questions together.

According to Schobesberger, a sticking point for CO2-neutral electricity production lies in energy storage. “This problem is unsolved, but hydrogen could be an option for it. “With storage power plants and heating and supply networks, we have the ideal conditions for cross-sector use in our region. We want to work together in this direction as well.”
