A 79-year-old from Linz wanted to park his car in a parking lot in front of a grocery store on Spaunstrasse at around 3:35 p.m. on Friday afternoon. At the same time, a 52-year-old Brazilian citizen from Linz was waiting for a relative at the entrance to the parking lot.
For reasons that are not yet known, the pensioner suddenly accelerated the vehicle, drove across a green strip, touched a car parked on Spaunstrasse and continued to curve to the right. The man then drove through a hedge there and collided with the standing Brazilian behind it. The 79-year-old drove further across the parking lot, drove through a hedge again, crossed Deutlweg and finally crashed into a garden fence.
The 52-year-old was seriously injured in the accident and brought to the Kepler University Hospital after first aid.
