The commune of Los Álamos, located in the region of biobiowas the scene of an arson attack on Thursday that culminated in more than one thirty burned vehiclesafter which the Ministry of the Interior decided to convene a meeting with the highest representatives of Carabineros and the Investigative Police.
After the aforementioned meeting, the Chilean government announced that “strategic and operational” measures will be taken in response to the acts of violence in the area, while rejecting the application of the state of emergency, requested by opposition groups.

“We had a constitutional state of exception in the south for almost six months and, unfortunately, we did not advance in the substantive solutions, and I think that this should be the perspective of the different actors: work on solutions that allow us not only to have the perception of security , but really make progress in security matters,” Siches concluded.
