The special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) visited the train station and a hospital, among other places, where she showed particular interest in the fate of refugee children. “The visit was unexpected for all of us,” said Lviv Governor Maxym Kosytskyi.
Volunteers at the station told her that many of the displaced people at the station were children between the ages of two and ten. “You must be in shock. I know how traumatic experiences affect children,” Jolie said. “I know it’s good for them when they have someone who shows them how important they and their causes are.” During her visit, Jolie tickled a little girl, who laughed. The Hollywood star also posed for photos with the aid workers and refugees.
Air alarm during visit
In a hospital, Jolie spoke to children who were injured in a rocket attack on the Kramatorsk train station in eastern Ukraine about three weeks ago. A video also showed Jolie rushing into an air-raid shelter during an air raid alert.
Jolie’s visit was publicized by a local journalist. Maia Pidhorodetska posted a video on Facebook showing Jolie in casual clothes and with a backpack arriving at the café. “Nothing special. Just Lviv. I just went for coffee. Just Angelina Jolie. Just Ukraine, which is supported by the whole world,” the journalist commented, according to Ukrinform agency.

As Ukrinform further reports, Jolie visited a hospital in Rome at the end of March, where she met the family of Ukrainian cancer patient Artem. This comes from the city of Tschernivzi (Czernowitz), which is also located in western Ukraine.
As a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Jolie had visited refugee camps in different parts of the world. She only visited Yemen in March, for example, where millions of people have been displaced by a civil war. After the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Lviv became one of the centers for internally displaced persons. According to its mayor, the city with 700,000 inhabitants took in around 200,000 refugees from other parts of the country.
