This day will be remembered by the members of the Lambach fire brigade for a long time. During the traditional manual erection of the maypole in front of the fire brigade depot, the decorated tree fell and hit the ground with full force. Luckily nobody was injured. A video of it was sent hundreds of times via WhatsApp last night.
“The tree would only have needed a little push, then it would have stood,” says Lambach commander Andreas Baumgärtler in an interview with OÖN. But instead, the Florian disciples slipped with the “adjusting forks” and the tree crashed to the ground. By jumping to the side, the members of FF Lambach were able to prevent even worse. “Exactly where the tree hit the ground, there was another onlooker who we sent away,” says the commander.
Since only the top of the tree was destroyed, after a short discussion it was decided to cut the tree down about three meters and put it up again – this time with a crane. “Even the wreaths were only slightly bent,” says Baumgärtler. “While we were putting up the tree for the second time, my cell phone vibrated the whole time and friends have already sent me the video,” says Baumgärtler, who, like his older comrades, cannot remember such an incident. “But the most important thing is that nothing happened to anyone,” says the commander.
