“Actually, I wanted to look at the Urfahran market on Sunday, but it was still a bit too loud for me.” No wonder handball player Moritz Bachmann was still buzzing yesterday, two days after his sensational league semi-final entry of his HC Linz AG. The 21-year-old was knocked out at 28:26 (14:11) in Bregenz after a foot hit by goalkeeper Ralf-Patrick Häusle. “I was unconscious for a second or two,” said Bachmann, who was lucky on several occasions. Firstly, because he can still remember the historic victory – Linz’s first semi-final in twelve years. And second, because he didn’t sustain any serious injuries other than a concussion. “Even when I was taking my blood pressure on the sidelines, I actually wanted to go back to the bench so I could play again,” says the backcourt player. However, the hall doctor sent him to the hospital for clarification, where his mother Daniela, who traveled with him on the fan bus, accompanied him. “She’s already used to a lot from earlier whoops from my childhood,” said Bachmann, who knows, not least because of his persistent headache, that the trip to the hospital was the right decision.
In the “Best of 3” semi-final series, Linz will first have to deal with Hard away from May 14th. The break came in handy for Bachmann so as not to rush into anything with the concussion. “If possible, I would like to train on Wednesday, but without physical contact,” says the youngster, who extended in Linz.
Manager’s wife tackles
Since he hit the ground unconscious and therefore without body tension, the left side of his body has been hurting. To get him going again, Angelika Schneider, wife of club manager Uwe Schneider, offered him a craniosacral session. Bachmann: “I’ll gladly accept that.”
Then the market in Urfahraner should still work out for him. Uwe Schneider says with a grin: “But maybe he shouldn’t drive in an autodrome yet.” (pue)
