Otelo started meeting for Ukrainian women

For five years, the Otelo open technology laboratory in Grieskirchen has been open to people who can meet and exchange ideas and plan and implement joint activities here without being forced to buy. Recently, meetings of Ukrainian women who have found refuge in the Grieskirchen area have also been taking place every Friday afternoon in the premises at Prechtlerstraße 18a.

“We would like to offer them the opportunity to get in touch with each other, to discuss their concerns and to exchange experiences,” says club chairman Heinz Plohberger. The Otelo team supported the hosts and the city, which informed those affected about the offer, with the implementation.

Since the Otelo also regularly organizes flea markets, there are also things in the store that the refugees can use and are allowed to take with them. As a next step, the Otelo also wants to offer a language café or learning cafés for school children if people who want to do voluntary work volunteer.

The Otelo recently moved from the brewery complex on the town square to Prechtlerstraße. Instead of more than 200, the Otelo team now has just under 80 m² at their disposal. “Fortunately, we only have to pay the operating costs here, of which the city covers half,” says Plohberger. He wants to continue bringing in the fixed costs through events, such as lectures on climate protection and the flea markets. “However, we have to reduce the flea market because we no longer have as many storage options,” says Plohberger. The chairman of the association recently stopped by brewery owner Marcus Mautner Markhof with a gift basket filled with products from the region. He had made the former Otelo quarter on Stadtplatz available for five years and also did not charge any rent, only the operating costs. (krai)
