A hit for Amstetten’s birthday

“Yes, I like that,” Hein Simons, known to his grandmothers as the heartbreaking singing boy “Heintje” from Holland, nodded into the telephone receiver. Helmut Hirner sang the refrain of the catchy tune that had to be on the new album, which will be released in May, for the now long grown pop star. The composer has long since sent the sheet music for the song to the record company, which had it arranged for the orchestral accompaniment and which Simons sang in the studio. At the “Amigos” Bernd and Karl-Heinz Ulrich, Hirner knows the household customs, the brothers have invited the Amstettner to Germany several times. The two are great guys and good guys, Hirner knows, but also true professionals in the music industry through and through. The fact that the Ösi has already written three songs for the two hit veterans together with his lyricist Franz Brachner with “Tausend Traume”, “Babylon” and “110 Karat”, the recordings of which have at least been gold-plated, strengthens the friendship. Normally, the record companies write out songs, perhaps specifying a few topics as a guide to what should be sung about. “Then up to 700 entries arrive at these competitions for the amigos,” explains Hirner, who himself belongs to a select group whose compositions are no longer pre-assessed, but preferentially chosen for the election. The interpreters who have already sung and recorded his songs would populate an entire stage at a hit parade on German television on Saturday evening: In addition to Simons, Amigos and DJ Ötzis, hits by the Kastelruther Spatzen (“The Tears of the Dolomites”, “The Sun shines for everyone”) or the Edlseer (“Jubilee Gold”) from his pen.

For the 50th anniversary of the founding of the greater community of Amstetten, the advertising copywriter and marketing expert Alfred Leimhofer (“Amstetten am Puls”) approached his friend Hirner and asked about a song for the anniversary year. By the way, Hirner, full-time layouter and designer at the Mostviertel magazine “momag”, immediately sat down at the keyboard and had a melody for a text by partner Franz Brachner. Despite gold and platinum hits in the hit industry, the income from royalties and copyrights is not so lavish to be able to give up a day job. The birthday song “Amstetten is well received”, which Mayor Christian Haberhauer (VP) and City Councilor for Culture Stefan Jandl (VP) liked, was of course voluntary. The proceeds from the sale of 500 sound carriers are donated to social causes.
