Wolfgangsee celebrated the start of the season

Wolfgangsee celebrated the start of the season

With exclusive media coverage from the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten, the new season in one of Austria’s most popular tourist regions was heralded last weekend in the three Wolfgangsee communities of St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen and Strobl with a two-day festival across all federal states. The motto was appropriately “musical and culinary”.

On Saturday and yesterday, Sunday, it was literally “dressed up” at Lake Wolfgang: gourmets got their money’s worth. On the occasion of the start of the season, the Wolfgangsee villages not only served local handicrafts, genuine, original customs including lots of local costumes, but also good food.

A paradise for culinary enthusiasts

On Saturday – contrary to forecasts – the weather was very pleasant – the band “Edelweiss 3” provided hearty music in St. Gilgen. Katharina, Sabrina and Isabella from the “Cuvee-Dreiklang” from the Flachgau tried the culinary specialties.

In Strobl, on the other hand, gourmets from near and far enjoyed delicacies such as venison ragout, Salzburg beer meat, Holzknecht-Nocken, Kasspatzen, Pofesen, foam rolls and much more on the lake promenade. In St. Wolfgang, the town center was quickly converted into a pleasure mile. The range stretched from fish specialties from Lake Wolfgang to Italian delicacies. The offers included what is probably the longest apple strudel ever baked on Lake Wolfgang.

The focus of interest was also the traditional erection of the maypole by the traditional costume association “D’Wolfganga”. The special thing about it: as in the old days, it is set up exclusively by hand and without the help of technical means.

Yesterday’s beer tapping by the three mayors of St. Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang was one of the highlights. In the place of pilgrimage, community leader Franz Eisl, tourism director Thomas Herrmann with his wife Ella and municipal councilor Elfriede Höplinger invited everyone to a mug of free beer.

The general tenor of the organizers and also the visitors: “The starting shot at Lake Wolfgang was successful – the summer season 2022 can begin.” (Hörm./gs)
