In order to support seriously ill children and their families in Upper Austria with accommodation for the duration of their necessary medical treatment, Ronald McDonald Children’s Aid Austria will build its own house in Linz. It will be the fifth children’s aid house in Austria.
It will have 15 to 20 residential units and will be located on the Med Campus area of the Kepler University Hospital. The groundbreaking will take place later this year, and the project should be completed by 2024. Donors and partners make their financial contribution to this “temporary home” in the state capital.
The Upper Austrian McDonald’s franchisees also supported the idea of having a children’s aid center as soon as possible as a place of special nest warmth in “their own province”. At the charity evening last week in the voestalpine Stahlwelt with around 250 guests, Christian Krainz (Gmunden), Wolfgang Mader (Wels), Roman Gehring (Wels), Karl Zollhuber (Freistadt) and Richard Jäger (Linz) were among the organizers and supporters included. In the end, a total of 152,000 euros was donated, which will benefit the planned house construction in Linz.
For 35 years, Ronald McDonald Children’s Aid has made it its mission to support families with seriously ill children. In the four houses in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg, in which a total of 65 apartments are available, around 1200 families find a home in the immediate vicinity of the treating clinics for the time the children need treatment. Being close to family has been shown to speed up the healing process by up to a third.
Since the start of the initiative, more than 20,000 families in Austria have been helped in this way. From 2024, this support should also be possible in Linz.
