The penultimate away game of the season at fifth-placed Lafnitz ended with a slight headache for forwards coach Daniel Madlener and a deep wound on the shin for captain Alberto Prada: Steyrer, who were so successful recently, lost 0-1 to their feared opponents.
“We didn’t start well, couldn’t put the energy on the pitch like in the previous games,” says a helpless Madlener, “unfortunately we weren’t dangerous enough in the last third.”
The Styrians put pressure on their forward defense with early attacks and scored the opening goal in the 11th minute: Gölles scored to make it 1-0 after a rebound on the bar. Even after that, the forwards hardly came into play, the hosts remained dangerous. Only the switch to a back three and the substitutions of Can Alak and Oguzhan Sivrikaya brought momentum to the Steyr offensive. Of course, nothing measurable came out of it. Ikenna Ezeala’s shot – the 20-year-old offensive player just extended his contract with Vorwarts for another two years – into the side netting remained the most dangerous action.
Captain Prada’s game ended in hospital: “I blocked a shot on goal and the opponent hit me with full force. I have a fairly deep and wide wound on my shin and was stitched up.” It is not yet clear how long he will be out of action.
