A nature trail to the foundations of the Mühlviertel

A nature trail to the foundations of the Mühlviertel

There were several occasions to celebrate on Saturday in the Großdöllnerhof open-air museum in Rechberg. In addition to the opening of the new season of exhibitions all about “folk medicine and superstition”, the Mühlviertel Nature Park Association presented the newly designed stone nature trail on the meadow in front of the historic courtyard. This path gives a good overview of the geology in Upper Austria. On the informative circular route, the various types of rock from all of Upper Austria’s landscapes are shown, from the Mühlviertel granite in the north to the foothills of the Alps to the Flyschberge and Limestone Alps.

“The path was laid in the 1970s. We have now redesigned some information boards and added new markings,” said Barbara Derntl, the long-time manager of the nature park, at the opening. The path has been supplemented with active stations such as a rock seesaw, where you can estimate your own weight and weigh it out with stones. A game of skill also entertains young and old.

House chronicle presented

On Saturday there were also first insights into the recently published Rechberg house chronicle. Ten years of work have gone into this lush reference work on the houses and their inhabitants then and now. “Following our Heimatbuch published in 2009, this is the next major work on the history of our community,” says Mayor Martin Ebenhofer. “In meticulous work, we have succeeded in bringing together community records and the parish registers with private sources – above all from local historian Leo Mayböck,” explains project manager Karl Haider from Bad Kreuzen. The Rechberg house chronicle in the lower Mühlviertel is unique in terms of content and design.
