Knife stab after argument in shared taxi

Wild scenes took place in a shared taxi in the Gmunden district in the morning hours of May 1st. Two passengers got into an argument that ended bloodily in Kirchham.

A 26-year-old from Vorchdorf was stabbed in the chest with a knife and ended up having to have emergency surgery in the hospital. The alleged perpetrator, a 19-year-old German citizen, was wanted and turned himself in to the police.

According to the police, both men were sitting in the back seat of a shared taxi around four in the morning. The later victim is said to have seriously insulted the alleged perpetrator – both of whom are said to have been drunk, according to the police – during the journey: “in a condescending and discriminatory manner because of his German descent,” according to a press release from the Upper Austrian State Police Directorate.

The 26-year-old got out in Kirchham and also wanted to drag the 19-year-old out of the car. But the younger man is said to have rammed a knife into the older man’s chest. The 19-year-old stayed in the taxi that drove away.

The 26-year-old who got out realized he had been stabbed and called his girlfriend, who picked him up and drove him home. But there the condition of the injured person deteriorated so much that he had to be taken to a hospital and had an emergency operation.

The taxi driver was able to identify the 19-year-old. Officials could not find him at home. The young man later turned himself in in the presence of his parents and was arrested.
