Corona wave flattens out, confusion about death numbers continues

There is still ambiguity in Austria about the different Covid death numbers that are circulating. Only two weeks ago there were late reports of thousands of deaths.

The interior and health ministries yesterday reported 18,170 deaths since the pandemic began. The reports from the federal states are the basis, it said. But on Sunday, the AGES dashboard already showed more than 19,697 dead. After a disruption on Monday morning, the AGES dashboard showed 19,719 Covid deaths in the afternoon.

The Ministry of Health announced that it had “already asked the federal states to report the deaths reported on the AGES dashboard in their systems and to take them into account in the daily federal state reports”. The Ministry of Health cannot say when this consideration will be completed in all federal states.

The current corona wave is flattening out. Nationwide, the number of new infections was 4098 yesterday, the lowest value in four months. Vienna currently has the highest seven-day incidence with 595.3, followed by Lower Austria (566.1) and Burgenland (508). A value of 381 is calculated for Upper Austria.

421 new infections were counted in Upper Austria yesterday. Twelve patients had to be treated in intensive care, another 98 were in a normal ward.
