The date has now been set: Maurer’s successor will be elected on July 31. In the elections last fall, he managed to cause a minor political sensation. Already in the first ballot he changed the color of the “red” Neuhofen.
It is already fixed that Petra Baumgartner will stand in for the ÖVP Deputy Mayor. The 46-year-old kindergarten and after-school teacher is currently running the official business on an interim basis. Baumgartner wants to continue on the path taken under Maurer. Becoming mayor was never her goal: “But life often has twists and turns that you didn’t expect. I want to face this new challenge.”
It’s unclear who else will compete
Baumgartner, who volunteers with the Red Cross, cares about cultivating togetherness. Other important topics include measures to calm traffic and make the town center more attractive.
Against whom the VP politician will compete is still open. Neither the SPÖ, the Greens nor the FPÖ have already made a decision on the candidate question – the parties let the OÖN know yesterday. The Social Democrats have several potential candidates to choose from, including the current Deputy Mayor, Gertraud Eckerstorfer.
