How can you make molecules glow?

How do self-driving cars work? How can smart clothing analyze movements? And how does a robot dog perceive its surroundings? Answers to such questions can be found at the Long Night of Research on May 20th.

In Upper Austria alone, more than 150 exhibitors are taking part at around 100 locations in eleven regions. State Councilor Markus Achleitner (VP), who is responsible for research, presented some of the highlights at a meeting on Monday. One of these highlights: voestalpine’s hydrogen pilot plant, which is being opened to the public for the first time.

The Johannes Kepler University offers more than 60 stations on the main campus in Linz, the medical campus and the software park in Hagenberg. The event is “the ideal opportunity to make our research understandable and tangible for a broad audience,” says Rector Meinhard Lukas. The four locations of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria also offer fascinating insights: For example, on the Linz campus you can test an atomic microscope or make molecules glow.
