What OÖN readers have known since yesterday evening has now been officially confirmed: Didi Kühbauer will be the new coach at Bundesliga club LASK. “Because of their physical presence and fitness, LASK was always one of the most unpleasant opponents when I was coach of the Bundesliga. These virtues must be called upon again in the current situation,” explains the neo-coach, who will already be on the bench in Linz in the home game against TSV Hartberg on Saturday.
The 55-time ÖFB team player and long-time Spain and Germany legionnaire has many years of experience as a head coach in the Bundesliga. After stints at Admira, WAC and St. Pölten, he most recently led Rapid Wien to the runners-up title twice and to the group stage of the Europa League.
“Didi Kühbauer has proven in the past that he can reach a team quickly and at the same time develop it further,” explains LASK sports director Radovan Vujanovic. “Not only his successes at Rapid, but his statistics alone against LASK speak for his qualities.”
Kühbauer met the athletes 14 times as a coach, and he left the field as the winner eight times. He only lost three times – twice with Rapid and once with St. Pölten. Kühbauer and his long-time companion Manfred Nastl will be in charge of the training today. Their contracts run until the end of the 2023/24 season.
