Poison bait laid out in forest, but Baxter knew better

Poison bait laid out in forest, but Baxter knew better

The incident happened in mid-April in a forest in Herzogsdorf. But, for reasons of police tactics, it has only now been announced. At that time, a couple in their home church took their two children, ages 10 and 13, and their dog, Baxter, for a walk, as they had done many times before. Baxter is a 14 month old purebred Labrador male. Since he is being trained to be a hunting dog, his owner let him roam freely within sight.

The dog found the poison bait – a cracker that was mixed with rat poison. Baxter brought the bait to its owners and dropped it on the ground. “You’re quite worried about that,” says Baxter’s owner, a passionate hunter. “Fortunately, we’ve already taught Baxter not to eat anything he finds.”

Nothing happened to the animal. He showed no signs of poisoning. Nevertheless, a conversation with the mayor of Herzogsdorf is now pending, says Baxter’s owner in an interview with nachrichten.at.: “Something like this is just not right”.

The Ottensheim police are asking for relevant information on Tel.: 059133-4337.
