“I have never experienced such a process of change. The pressure from consumers will be enormous,” said Oberbank General Director Franz Gasselsberger at the 4th sustainability brunch of OÖNachrichten and the CleanTechCluster on the subject: “ESG reporting: don’t just talk, but do! As?”
However, companies are not yet overly aware of this. Gasselsberger described the control of loans granted by banks in the direction of climate neutrality as the greatest challenge for his company. In the second half of the year, they will start calculating the greenhouse gases caused by corporate loans. That accounts for a very large part of the possible climate impact. This data must also be published by 2024.
With its taxonomy regulation, the EU has set strict requirements for sustainability reporting. So far, only 89 companies in Austria have had to publish these reports. It would soon be 2000, said Josef Baumüller, an expert at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. However, it is becoming apparent that the deadlines “to at least 2024 or 2025” would be postponed by one to two years. “Use the time until then”, said the consultant Silvia Payer-Langthaler in the direction of small and medium-sized companies to redefine success with sustainable indicators.
