In the past it was the old people’s homes that had to be built, but now it’s the staff that worries those responsible in the social welfare associations. In Hellmonsödt, as part of a pilot project, employees’ children can be cared for directly in the home if they so wish. “Our employees in the retirement home should be supported by childcare. This increases the quality of care,” said the SHV board members and regional MPs Josef Rathgeb and Michael Hammer on the occasion of a visit to the Hellmonsödter home childcare.
The Board of Directors of the Urfahr-Surroundings Social Welfare Association is making efforts on many levels to be able to cover the increasing need for care in the district. One focus concerns measures to recruit more nursing staff. The board of directors of the community association decided on this pilot project for childcare in the Hellmonsödt district home for the elderly. “The mayors actively support the employees, since a large number of employees work part-time, mainly to be able to look after their children,” say the two.
The social welfare association is constantly striving to enable or facilitate its employees to work in addition to family obligations. With the new pilot project for childcare in the home in Hellmonsödt, a further impetus should be given in this regard.
The children are cared for directly in the home by trained childminders. The mothers and fathers take their children with them to work and know that they will be in good hands there until the end of the service.
The compatibility of family and work is a major concern for the social welfare association as an employer and an important key to covering the increasing need for personnel. It is hoped that part-time workers in particular will be able to increase their working hours in care if childcare is guaranteed.
