There were around 100 Ukrainian women and Steyrers in solidarity with those displaced from their homeland who recently attended the first “Ukrainian Cultural Evening” on the forecourt of the Museum of Labor (MAW). The idea for this came from the two initiators Anastasya Krotyuk and Natalia Cuénez – two Ukrainians who studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Steyr, probably fell in love with the city and stayed there afterwards.
Despite the last-minute invitation, this first “cultural evening” was very well received by many people. Encouragement enough for the two Ukrainians to invite you again today, Thursday, May 5, to the Museum of Working World for an exchange.
From 3 p.m. in a cozy atmosphere with small dishes and drinks at the beginning, the focus of the afternoon will be primarily on the questions and concerns of those who have been displaced from Ukraine and who have fled. The adult education center in Steyr, which offers German courses, will present its program and the BFI is also expected.
“Helping Steyr residents are not only welcome, but also invited to get in touch and find answers and solutions to the challenges of everyday life in Steyr together,” says Stephan Rosinger from the MAW. The afternoon will again be framed by musical sounds from the Ukraine.
Free entry for refugees
As in other Austrian museums, refugees from the Ukraine have had free entry to the Arbeitswelt Museum since March. The presentation of a Ukrainian passport or identity document is sufficient for this. The “Made in Steyr” exhibition can be viewed there until July 10th. The show illuminates the history of Steyr from industrialization to the present.
