The Black Wings have found and got their ideal candidate for the position of goalkeeper: With Rasmus Tirronen, last year’s finalist from Fehervar is moving to Linz. The 1.19 meter tall Finn was able to celebrate two shutouts in the previous season and parried 91.3 percent of the shots on his goal in the regular season. In the playoff, the 31-year-old managed to improve again: With a catch rate of 92.9 percent, Tirronen was one of the key figures in the semi-final series against Villach in Hungary’s first-ever entry into an ICE final.
Tirronen is already looking forward to his teammates and the forthcoming preparations for the season and is optimistic: “I am convinced that we can give the Linz audience many nice evenings again in the coming season”.
Tirronen was born in Espoo and grew up in the youth of the Espoo Blues. Between 2010 and 2016, the left-hander played in North America – first in college and later in the AHL (Charlotte Checkers) and ECHL (Florida Everblades). He found his way into the ICE Hockey League via Espoo United, TPS Turku and Pori Ässät as well as EHC Visp in the second Swiss division.
Goalie trainer Jürgen Penker may have been the decisive factor in the move from Fehervar to Linz. The man from Linz is said to have made acquaintance with Tirronen during a summer training session. Additionally, Penker, also a goaltender scout for the NHL franchise Florida Panthers, continues to enjoy a good standing with goalies who have worked with him. “Rasmus is an extremely meticulous and hard worker who constantly wants to develop and improve. He also has a lot of international experience and knows our league very well thanks to his commitment in Fehervar,” said Penker.
