68,000 refugees from Ukraine have been registered in Austria so far, 40,000 to 42,000 of them are currently in basic care.
There is still a lot of room left in the quarters. A large accommodation was only recently opened in Simmering, which is only loosely filled. However, refugee coordinator Takacs reports that new shelters are being registered all the time: “If we don’t sit back, we’ll be able to take care of 150,000 to 200,000.” The German courses show that there is a buffer. 34,000 additional places were created, 2,000 would be used.
The fact that one should be able to earn up to the marginal income limit in this future is again an issue on Tuesday at the state refugee consultants’ conference. Takacs, who will be present himself, is hoping for a quick solution. So far, the matter has failed because Carinthia insisted that recipients of basic services who are not from the Ukraine should also benefit. It is disputed whether unanimity is required between all federal states and the federal government.
To date, a good 2,500 work permits have been issued to people displaced from the Ukraine. More than 4,500 are registered with the AMS to look for work. Of course, the potential is significantly greater. 53,000 have already received a “Blue Card” which gives them access to the labor market. In the meantime, 8,000 children and young people have arrived in everyday school life.
Those most affected are the neighboring countries of Ukraine
The neighboring states of Ukraine affected by the Russian aggression continue to bear the lion’s share of the burden. From Moldova, which the refugee coordinator recently visited, Takacs reports that people come and go. On the one hand, new refugees are constantly arriving, while others are striving to return to Ukraine. In principle, however, a new wave is also expected in the small neighboring country soon. If the attacks continued in the direction of Odessa, another half a million people could come to Moldova.
