On Tuesday, Dietmar Kühbauer led his first training session at LASK, four days his team had the chance to win their debut in injury time – but Sascha Horvath hit the penalty kick on the bar. You didn’t notice at all that the fans were critical of the new coach. The 5150 spectators cheered on the team as usual – without discord. This is how Kühbauer experienced its premiere:
4:14 p.m.: Kühbauer is on his way to the Sky interview. He gets applause from the grandstand, he returns the greeting with his hand and smiles.
4:20 p.m.: In the interview, Kühbauer is asked about the reservations of some LASK fans. “The team is more important than me,” he replies. “I try to get every, really every fan on my side. It’s important that the lads have the energy to take the crowd with us.” He emphasizes that the time was too short to see big differences compared to the previous games against Hartberg. “If it works today, I wouldn’t mind.” After the interview, Kühbauer goes back into the dressing room while the players start the warm-up program.
4:36 p.m.: Stadium announcer Wolfgang Fröschl introduces the new coach, and there are no expressions of dissatisfaction from the fans.
4:54 p.m.: Behind the substitutes, Kühbauer goes to the bench – in a black LASK T-shirt and blue jeans. He carries a jacket in his hand. Just before he arrives, he points his thumb up towards the stands, appearing concentrated and tense. Kühbauer sits on the far right, talks to his long-time assistant trainer Manfred Nastl next to him and waits for the kick-off. When the teams come onto the pitch, he greets fourth official Arnes Talic on the halfway line, and on the pitch he warmly hugs Hartberg coach Klaus Schmidt on his way to the dugout. Both laugh.
Four goals in the first 28 minutes
1st minute: With the whistle, Kühbauer gets up from the bench and goes to the corner of the coaching zone. The first attack takes place right in front of him, after a misunderstanding between Nakamura and Balic, Hartberg gets the ball. Kühbauer turns to the coach’s bench and gestures with his hand as to how the situation could have been solved better.
2nd minute: The second push of the athletes comes from the left side. “Come on!” shouts Kühbauer as Nakamura gets the ball. The Japanese plays a good exchange pass, but the cross from the other side is defended.
4th minute: Diarra caused Nakamura to take the first corner kick. Kuhbauer applauds.
8 minutes: Nakamura fires the first shot on goal, goalkeeper Swete saves easily. Kühbauer turns around disappointed. A goal would not have counted anyway: Balic was offside in the formation.
9 minutes: Kühbauer sits on the bench for the first time since kick-off, but only for a few seconds.
12 minutes – 1:0: Potzmann crosses from the right, Nakamura toes the ball, which bounces off the post and into the goal. Everyone on the bench jumps up, and Kühbauer clenches his fists right in the middle.
14 minutes: Hartberg runs the first counterattack, when the chance silts up, Kühbauer is annoyed about losing the ball in midfield.
17 minutes: Michorl’s Stanglpass flies unmatched across the five, on the other side Potzmann plays the next ball into the penalty area. Goiginger’s attempt to deflect the pass with his heel behind the supporting leg in the direction of the goal fails. Kühbauer takes note with his hands in his pockets.
22 minutes – 1: 1: Aydin completes a combination down the left flank to equalize. Kühbauer shows no emotion.
25 minutes – 2: 1: Nakamura runs across the penalty area line and finishes in the middle with his right foot in the left corner. Kühbauer raises his arms, the scorer runs to the coach. In the jubilee cluster, Kühbauer gives instructions.
28 minutes – 2: 2: Niemann is completely free to compensate with a header. Kühbauer turns away, visibly annoyed.
42 minutes: Kainz forgives from a good position, Kühbauer discusses with Nastl.
45 minutes: Referee Kijas ends the first half on time. On the way to the dressing room, Kühbauer talks to his assistant Nastl.
The third lead is also lost
46 minutes: After all the players and supervisors, Kühbauer comes out of the dressing room. Because the teams are already ready for the restart, he doesn’t walk across the field, but takes the detour around the outside.
52 minutes – 3: 2: Horvath’s free kick from the right is extended and the ball bounces into the goal from Goiginger’s back. Kühbauer clenches his fists. When the VAR confirmed the goal because Holland had his hands close to the ball, Kühbauer clapped his hands to spur the team on.
60 minutes: Nakamura misses the chance to make it 4-2, Kühbauer applauds the good combination.
62 minutes:Kühbauer makes the first change: He brings Schmidt on for Balic, who high-fives the coach in front of the bench.
64 minutes: Nakamura bangs the ball on the crossbar, Kühbauer briefly rises on tiptoe.
75 minutes: Kühbauer changes: He brings Hong and Gruber for Holland and Goiginger. This time, too, there is a slap on the back of the head for those who have been replaced.
79 minutes: After Nakamura’s Stanglpass, Gruber’s direct shot goes over the goal. Kühbauer claps his hands in disappointment.
83 minutes – 3: 3: Paintsil passes goalkeeper Schlager after a long pass, Filipovic stops the shot by sliding in front of the line, Avdijaj dusts off. Kühbauer turns around mumbling, followed shortly by encouraging applause.
90 minutes: Hong is fouled in the penalty area, Kijas whistles a penalty. Kühbauer’s fists shoot up.
92 minutes: Kuhbauer paces back and forth in the coaching zone as VAR checks the penalty. Horvath is ready.
93 minutes: Horvath hits the crossbar. Kühbauer takes note of it without emotion.
98 minutes: Kijas whistles. Slowly and thoughtfully, Kühbauer goes into the dressing room. On the way there he high fives with Hartberg trainer Schmidt.
