The girlfriend of the 31-year-old had informed the emergency services after the men had not returned two hours after crossing the Traun, the police reported.
A 31-year-old, his 26-year-old girlfriend and her 32-year-old boyfriend were in Roitham on Saturday night for drinks on the Traun-Ufer there. Then the two stripped down to their underpants and swam to the other bank, the Traun, which was still relatively cold at this time of year. The girlfriend was waiting on the bank for the two men to return. However, when they reached the other bank, they couldn’t make it back because of the strong current. They called her to come right back and went up the embankment. Due to the dense vegetation, they lost sight of the two. After they weren’t back after two hours, the concerned friend called the police.
After the arrival of the police patrol and clarification of the situation, another patrol on the other side of the Traun was called in to the search operation. In addition, a service dog patrol, a drone pilot, two other police patrols and a boat from the fire brigade were alerted. Before the drone pilot and the fire brigade arrived, a police patrol found the men who had been reported missing in a wooded area about 500 meters away from the accident, which allowed the search operation to be broken off. The two drunk men were lost in the woods.
