Allegations of plagiarism against the CSU general secretary

“I wrote my doctoral thesis to the best of my knowledge and belief,” Huber announced yesterday. “Nevertheless, for reasons of transparency, I ask the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich to check the work again.”

The background to this are allegations by plagiarism researcher Jochen Zenthöfer, who spoke in the “Bild am Sonntag” of quotations without or with incorrect source information in the dissertation. In addition, Zenthöfer said that the standards of good scientific work had not been met. The errors went beyond individual citation errors. A stage has been reached at which the university must review the work.

In 2007, Huber presented his work entitled “The Influence of the CSU on the Western Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1954-1969 with regard to Relations with France and the USA”. On Sunday he said: “More than 20 pages of bibliography and more than 600 footnotes document the source work.”

Huber was only introduced on Friday as CSU general secretary. The 44-year-old took over the post from Stephan Mayer, who announced his resignation after just over two months in office.
