A Slow Food community was recently founded in Vöcklabruck to strengthen the appreciation for food in the region. The international Slow Food movement campaigns for the right to good, clean and fair food in over 160 countries.
The voluntary community has developed around the seasonal organic market in the OKH, which was launched in 2018 by young organic farmers. This is now carried out as a broad cooperation project by producers, food coop volunteers and cultural workers. In March 2022, the market was named “Market of the Earth” by Slow Food International – making it the first in Upper Austria. “Starting from the market, we want to promote a sense of responsibility for organic, regional food and, above all, create a direct exchange between producers and consumers,” say Katharina Neumann and Richard Schachinger, spokespersons for Slow Food Vöcklabruck.
Christina Kottnig, chairwoman of the umbrella organization Slow Food Austria and herself from Upper Austria, is also enthusiastic about the initiative of the committed market team: “I am extremely happy that my home province of Upper Austria has now also got its first market on earth. Our markets on earth are so many more than normal markets. Here you can experience and enjoy slow food in its most beautiful form: tasty, ecologically and fairly produced food, directly from the producers, who passionately tell about the production and the craft behind it, and all that directly from the Region without long transport routes.”
The Slow Food philosophy “good, clean and fair” is to be conveyed through lectures or visits to local food producers and thus mutual trust is to be built up. Editor Philipp Braun “With Slow Food out of the crisis” invited to the OKH.
