The Moscow-born Nina Sarina (USA) for the fourth time in a row and the Japanese Jo Fukuda for the first time secured the global overall victories with 56 and 64.43 km respectively. Ultra runner Tom Evans, who, with 63.41 km as the best runner in Austria, finished fifth worldwide, just missed out on victory. With 44.2 km Kerstin Springer (OÖ) became the Austrian winner. This time, 161,892 participants from more than 192 nations were registered for the global charity run and contributed to the new record sum for spinal cord research with their entry fees. The best Austrian was Andreas Stöckl from Salzburg with 59.49 kilometers. Around 37,000 participants took part in Austria. In Vienna alone there were more than 10,000, including many celebrities.

Unlike classic running events, the “Wings for Life Run” has no goal. Instead, a so-called catcher car will be sent out for the seven flagship runs worldwide, which will gradually become faster. When all participating runners or wheelchair users have been caught, the race is over. Runners on all continents can also take part at the same time via App-Run. In 2023 the event will take place on May 7th. Registration is already possible.
