The accident happened around 10:40 a.m. when an 83-year-old from Mühlviertler wanted to turn his car from the Marreither goods road onto the Hirschbacher Landesstraße. His vehicle collided with the car of a 72-year-old German who had just repeated a tractor-trailer combination on the long, straight stretch of road and got back into position.
The force of the impact turned the 83-year-old’s car around its own axis. The 72-year-old’s car left the road on the right and crashed into a tree. The German suffered such serious injuries that he had to be taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz by rescue helicopter.
The 83-year-old was injured to an unspecified degree and taken to the Freistadt hospital, the police said on Monday afternoon. Video recordings show the scene of the accident:
