A fisherman fell from his moving motorboat into Lake Attersee on Monday afternoon. The man had lost his balance while standing up. Because he fell on the outboard motor, the throttle shifted to full throttle and the driverless boat made laps around the man floating in the eleven-degree water. “A dangerous situation,” says Martin Eberl from the water rescue service in Upper Austria. After all, the fisherman could have been hit by the ship’s propeller or hit by the boat.
Two witnesses rushed the 49-year-old with their boats to help: one pulled him out of the water, one managed to block the propeller of the unmanned boat with the help of a rope before the water rescue team arrived. This brought the hypothermic man to the shore. He was taken to the hospital. His two dogs, who were also on his boat, were unharmed.
