The local council gave the go-ahead for the gondola plans

At an extraordinary municipal council meeting convened at short notice for Tuesday evening, there was a positive opinion from Hinterstoder on the plans of the HiWu mountain railways to move the valley station from the immediate town center to the large car park. “The content was approved with 11:2 votes,” says Mayor Klaus Aitzetmüller (VP). Only two Greens were against it.

The municipality would not have been able to prevent the HiWu plans anyway, since the construction falls within the competence of the federal government and no separate zoning is required. “It would have been irresponsible not to agree to a modern gondola station,” says Aitzetmüller. This offers many opportunities, and it is only 150 meters, so the station remains close to the center. “The HiWu assured me that we would jointly develop and implement projects for replacement frequencies at the old location. The HiWu will finance this, but we hope for support from the state.”

Community leader Karin Zörrer-Zeiner (Greens) is less euphoric about the decision: “Tourism researcher Professor Peter Zellmann said that the valley station had to stay in town, otherwise it would be death for the town.” The HiWu had indeed promised to help with the subsequent use of the current valley station, but “our confidence is not at its best with regard to the events at the Alprima, the sale to an investor and the second homes on the top floor”. The Greens would now try to introduce their objections to the concession process.
