According to Electronic Arts, Fifa 23, a final version together with FIFA, is to be released this fall. In the future, the game will be called “EA Sports FC”. This should mean some changes for the players, it will probably no longer be possible to replay world championships in the future. According to EA Sports, however, they continue to work with official license partners from professional football – for example for leagues, players, stadiums and football clubs.
According to EA, there should already be commitments from European loungers in particular. “We have an excellent partnership with EA,” said Bundesliga Managing Director Donata Hopfen. “We look forward to the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 being integrated into EA Sports FC.”
The “New York Times” reported that the negotiations to extend the partnership had failed, among other things, because of the money issue. FIFA wanted more than double the previous figure of $150 million per year.
As FIFA explained, they no longer want to assign their rights exclusively to a game developer. “The renewal with EA Sports is a new agreement that grants rights only for the football simulation category and unlocks broader game rights for FIFA and various game publishers,” it said.
Cooperation with games such as Fortnite or virtual reality or augmented reality experiences are conceivable for FIFA. According to the “New York Times”, EA also did not want to accept that FIFA wanted to sell licenses in their name in online games such as Fortnite.
