The youth may have drowned in a pond, police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner said on request. The person concerned was a non-swimmer. Resuscitation carried out on the spot was ultimately unsuccessful. Whether an autopsy will be ordered will be decided on Thursday, Schwaigerlehner said.
The Guntramsdorf volunteer fire brigade was also alerted during the incident. When the helpers arrived, the casualty had “just been discovered in the water,” according to a broadcast. Private individuals, police officers and the fire brigade commander pulled the boy out of the water. An ambulance helicopter was also at the scene. Another person, who apparently also could not swim, was rescued from a bathing island anchored in the pond and brought to safety using the fire brigade’s aluminum boat.
