After studying law, which he completed with a doctorate, Ziesel (born July 7, 1941 in Graz) worked for 50 years from 1960 to 2010 as a radio and TV journalist in Graz and Vienna. As a journalist, he has trained and shaped generations of people. His quiet, sosigned voice was striking.
The lover and connoisseur of classical music was president of the Styrian Society of Music Lovers and the Graz Symphonic Orchestra. In the latter capacity he had worked closely with the Italian conductor Fabio Luisi, who was artistic director of the Symphoniker from 1990 to 1996.
According to ORF Styria, Ziesel designed the entertainment show “TIP”, was moderator of the “Europamagazin” and the Opera Ball, director and author of numerous TV documentaries – for example about the Special Olympics World Games. “It was always important to me that we offer quality. That everything we do comes close to perfection. That you take it seriously and that you also take the ORF’s requirement of objectivity seriously,” said Ziesel in an interview with ORF on the occasion said of his 80th birthday last year.
In 2017, Ziesel was awarded the Great Golden Medal of Honor of the State of Styria. The Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold with a star followed in April 2022.
