Rape in Weyer: Suspect remains at large

Together with her family, the 15-year-old filed a complaint with the police on Thursday, after which a medical examination was ordered, which has now been completed. The provisional arrest by the Weyer police was canceled last week due to the lack of evidence by the Steyr public prosecutor’s office.

The Syrian asylum seeker charged by the young Ukrainian is said to have forced the slightly intoxicated refugee girl to have sexual intercourse in the Weyer area last Wednesday and injured her neck and limbs. However, the evidence was not sufficient to approve the arrest of the suspect, as Julia Rauscher, spokeswoman for the Steyr public prosecutor’s office, confirmed at the weekend. In addition to the verbal notification by the police, a written investigation report is also required.

This written report on the evidence collected so far and the medical diagnosis is expected early next week. As soon as this has been checked by the responsible clerk, the public prosecutor’s office can take further steps, Rauscher stated on Sunday when asked by APA. Until then, the alleged perpetrator remains at large.

The advertiser recently fled to Austria with her mother and two siblings from the war in Ukraine. The public prosecutor’s office was unable to provide any information on the relationship between the young Syrian and the young Ukrainian at the weekend. On Sunday, Rauscher confirmed that there was a ban on approaching and entering the suspect, but that the decision was up to the responsible police station.
