A week ago she was crowned Austrian winner of the Wings for Life Run with a mileage of 44 kilometers. Today Kerstin Springer from the Union Rohrbach-Berg showed her running skills again at the 21st edition of the Florian Spring Run, which was supported by the OÖ Nachrichten .
Over the distance of ten kilometers, the 21-year-old was untouchable in 37:54.5 minutes and relegated all male opponents to their places. Springer’s victory ahead of club colleague Bernhard Mandl (38:38.4) and Thomas Koscher (38:42.1) was clear. Incidentally, her brother Stefan, who was two years older, won the run over five kilometers in a time of 16:43.9 ahead of Alex Unger and Jürgen Wolfinger.
With their victories, the young Springers continued a family runner tradition. Her parents Franz and Andrea made a name for themselves in the running scene at a time when the sport wasn’t as popular as it is today. In any case, with daughter Kerstin and son Stefan, it is clear that the generation change has already taken place.
With a total of 120 registrations, the Florian Spring Run fell short of the numbers from before Corona, despite optimal weather conditions yesterday. Because of the pandemic, the traditional run was out of the question in the past two years. In any case, it will continue, albeit in a new format, as organizer Ewald Tröbinger from ASKÖ TRI Linz announced in the OÖN interview.
It’s going towards night run
There are still discussions with the municipality of St. Florian, but this much is already clear: According to Tröbinger, it will be a night run, with its own route near the center with the start and finish near the illuminated monastery. This is to attract more active people. (rgr)
