Alert Level Three
The highest alert level three was declared. The Aschachtal district road is currently closed in both directions, the ÖAMTC announced around 7:30 p.m. on its website. “Between the B130 and the intersection to Stroheim, no journeys are currently possible on the L1215 due to a fire,” said the Motorists Club. A detour has been set up.
If the emergency services initially assumed a smaller embankment fire, according to initial information it should be a forest fire. Plumes of smoke rising above the forest area there could be seen in pictures.

A major problem was the water supply in the rough terrain. Farmers turned up with their tractors and liquid manure tanks to help with the extinguishing work. The fire service was still in progress at around 8:30 p.m.
The fire has now been brought under control, officials said. But it was still necessary to look for embers. The fact that the vegetation was not too dry due to the rain of the past few days should have benefited the fire brigade.
The police are on site and are investigating the cause of the fire. According to initial results, a campfire that was not properly extinguished could have started the fire.
