It was almost like a fall at the finish line: about 500 meters before they would have reached the end of their tour, a serious accident ended the bike ride of two Mühlviertler aged 43 and 54 years on Sunday afternoon abruptly.
The 54-year-old lost control of his bike on the downhill Sonnbergstraße in the area of the municipal boundary between Sonnberg im Mühlkreis and Zwettl an der Rodl, came off the sloping road to the right and fell headlong on the road shoulder.
He sustained serious injuries. After the emergency medical first aid, he was taken to the Kepler University Hospital, the police said on Sunday evening. Shortly before the accident, the two people from the Mühlviertel had taken a break together and must have enjoyed a glass or two of alcohol. The old stool test of the 43-year-old showed a value of 1.36 per mille. No test was possible on the accident victim.
