No trembling party. The Swans Gmunden also won game three of the semi-final series in the basketball super league against the Oberwart Gunners with 99:79 and thus superiority. Victory was never in danger. As a reward, the defending champions will now face BC Vienna and thus the new club of former Swans captain Enis Murati in “Best of five” mode from next Sunday.
The role of having to win clearly lies with the Viennese, is emphasized again and again by the Gmundner side. But the last game against Oberwart showed that there was a lot of understatement involved. “I have faith that the team can achieve great things. But Enis and his boys are the favourites,” coach Anton Mirolybov said.
But many of his players got in shape in time for the end of the season. For example Stephon Jelks, with 20 points and eleven rebounds one of the match winners on Saturday. “He has a mentality monster. Of course it’s great to have a man like that on the team,” says Gmunden Managing Director Richard Poiger.
For Gmunden it is the 13th final participation, the Swans have won the title five times so far – most recently in the past season. Vienna goes into the final series with a clean play-off vest, having swept Graz and Traiskirchen 3-0 off the floor in the semi-finals and in the quarter-finals.
However, the pressure on the Vienna team, which is peppered with numerous stars, will not decrease. “Because you can’t fail, it remains a big challenge,” admits ÖBV team player Murati in an interview with “Standard”. The 33-year-old native of Kosova moved from Gmunden to Vienna after last season as the best player in the league. Now the big duel follows at the end.
