In Weyer, a 15-year-old Ukrainian woman is said to have been raped by a 19-year-old asylum seeker from Syria. This serious allegation was made in a complaint filed by the girl’s family on Thursday. The 15-year-old recently fled to Austria with two siblings and her mother from the Russian attacks.
The alleged crime happened late Wednesday evening. No details were announced. This much is certain: the Syrian is said to have dragged the 15-year-old to a railway embankment that was difficult to see and then attacked her. The Ukrainian, who was allegedly slightly intoxicated at the time, is said to have suffered injuries to her neck and arms. She confided in her brother the following day.
It is not known whether the girl and the alleged, previously blameless perpetrator had known each other before or whether it was a chance encounter. The public prosecutor’s office still did not receive any written information from the police, said a spokeswoman for the prosecution in Steyr when asked by OÖN.
After the suspect spoke of “voluntary” sexual intercourse, “statement stands against statement.” It is being investigated on suspicion of rape, the Syrian has been reported at large for the time being.
In the meantime, the girl had been examined by a doctor, but the public prosecutor’s office had not yet received the diagnosis, according to the spokeswoman for the authorities on Sunday. The police issued a provisional ban on approaching the Syrian and asked the basic asylum care of the state of Upper Austria to move the 19-year-old from Weyer to another accommodation. The responsible integration state councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer (VP) then announced that the 19-year-old would be relocated to a place 50 kilometers away. “Our stance is clear: Asylum seekers who commit crimes have forfeited their right of hospitality and must be deported immediately.”
