The Upper Austria has launched a campaign for smoke-free playgrounds. family association started. Among the communities taking part are Seewalchen, Steinbach and Vöcklabruck.
The aim of the campaign is to sensitize people to the topic: children’s playgrounds are places where the little ones can let off steam; there they should not be disturbed by clouds of smoke. “Children are curious and like to imitate their role models,” emphasizes Helena Kirchmayr, state chairwoman of Kinderwelt. “It’s not uncommon for cigarette butts to find their way into or even into the mouth,” she points out in dangerous situations.
“With the campaign we want to set an example and appeal to the responsibility of the population,” says Manuela Gschwandtner, District Chairwoman of the Family Association. Together with the mayors Gerald Egger (Seewalchen), Nicole Eder (Steinbach) and Deputy Mayor Elisabeth Kölblinger (Vöcklabruck), she put up “smoke-free playground” signs.
