In farmland, children learn to understand nature

Which plants grow on our meadows? Why are bees so important for a rich apple harvest? The pupils of the Mondsee Pedagogical Center should gain experience with nature in the Bauernland nature park and thus understand it. The PZ Mondsee has now been certified as the first nature park school in the Bauernland nature park, making it only the second general special school in Austria with this rating.

“The increased access to nature and learning how to deal with it in a healthy way is a wonderful enrichment for our students, they will benefit from it throughout their lives,” says Andreas Frixeder, Director of the Mondsee Educational Center.

Shortly after the Mondsee Nature Park was founded in the summer of 2021, Frixeder tried to get in touch so that his school could receive the nature park certificate. Now the time had come: Provincial Councilor Michaela Langer-Weninger as Chairwoman of the Nature Park, the Mayors of Mondseeland and Claudia Kubelka from the Association of Austria’s Nature Parks presented the certificate.

Chairwoman Langer-Weninger is satisfied: “We are very proud and extremely pleased that we were able to have our first nature park school certified so quickly.” Pupils and teachers as well as the nature park team were looking forward to experiences that they could have together. This was toasted with juices and syrups produced by the region’s farmers.
