Great refreshment: Summer days lure you to the lakes

Cloudless blue skies, bright sunshine and summer temperatures of up to 30 degrees attract bathers to Upper Austria’s lakes in the coming days. “From a meteorological point of view, we are already talking about real hot days that we are facing on Thursday and Friday,” says Josef Haslhofer from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG).

Even if the morning temperatures are still a bit fresh – from midday the daily highs are already at mid-summer levels. Even in the mountains, the temperatures reach around 18 degrees, Upper Austria’s lakes invite you to take a dip in the cool water. “Thursday and Friday will be perfect bathing days. There will be a few rain showers towards the weekend, but it will remain warm,” says Haslhofer.

Good start to the bathing season

Excellent news for Upper Austria’s bathing lakes and tourism associations, who are already looking forward to a successful start to the summer season. “In the past few days, numerous bathers have dared to swim in the cool waters of Lake Traunsee in the public places. Our lidos are now all open, so the season has started well,” says Andreas Murray, Managing Director of Lake Traunsee Tourism. And that, although the temperatures of the Traunsee in the bays are only about 16 degrees. “We’re all looking forward to the summer days ahead,” says Murray.

Already last weekend, many dared to jump into Mondsee, which is about 17 degrees cold. “There was a lot going on, especially at the public bathing areas, but also at the lido. We didn’t expect that for May,” says Kathrin Haas from the Mondsee-Irrsee Tourist Association. The Irrsee, which already has temperatures of around 18 degrees, has gone from being a “public insider tip” to becoming a magnet for bathers.

The companies at Lake Attersee are already looking forward to guests from near and far, where the bathing season has also started very well thanks to the beautiful weather. “There are quite a few who refresh themselves on and in the Attersee, which has 17 degrees,” says Angelina Eggl, Managing Director of the Attersee-Attergau Tourist Association. “The lake is now also getting warmer by the day.”
