If the concept for the technical university does not stand up to criticism from the JKU, “then it must be improved,” said SP state parliament club chairman Michael Lindner. It’s about “progress in Upper Austria,” which “must not be carelessly jeopardized because such an opportunity rarely arises.” The distrust on the part of the JKU “must be counteracted by active involvement by all responsible actors, above all Governor Thomas Stelzer”. From the point of view of the SPÖ, the TU is in any case “a lighthouse project for Upper Austria”.
“It is necessary to close ranks for the project of the century instead of trench warfare,” responded the Federation of Austrian Industries (IV) Upper Austria. “Explicitly” the draft law is therefore approved, according to IVOÖ Managing Director Joachim Haindl-Grutsch. A partnership between industry and the TU is also being sought. Since the project was announced in the summer of 2020, work has been carried out on the concept at the TU “with the involvement of numerous experts from Germany and abroad”, Haindl-Grutsch has found little criticism.
“Instead of working together on a TU showcase plan, (ex-Chancellor Sebastian) Kurz and Stelzer invented the project as a confetti cannon for the state election campaign,” protested Neos club chairman Felix Eypeltauer. The TU as an opportunity for the location “must finally be tackled as such”.
