The carers informed the animal rescue service, which removed the reptile, which was about 30 centimeters long, and brought it to the animal shelter. There, the smooth snake’s minor injury was treated before the volunteers from Icara released it back into nature – “away from any sandboxes,” as the animal rescuers informed.

At first it was thought to be a dice snake. It later turned out to be a smooth snake. “Both snake species are of course absolutely harmless and harmless,” said Icara on Wednesday.

The non-poisonous smooth snake, also known as smooth snake, is widespread throughout Austria. It is a typical inhabitant of the flat and hilly country and prefers very dry and warm places. “The smooth snake, which is otherwise very shy, seems to have increasingly sought proximity to human settlements in recent years. These reptiles are being noticed more and more often in front and house gardens or sunbathing on terraces,” stated the Steyr snake specialist Hans Esterbauer.
