Gams got lost in Salzburg’s Mirabell Gardens

A stray chamois was caught Wednesday morning in the middle of the city of Salzburg in the baroque Mirabell Gardens and brought back to the small chamois population on the Kapuzinerberg. The morning walk in the blooming garden kept the police officers, firefighters, the city huntsman and a zoo vet on their toes. According to the professional fire brigade, the chamois was stunned by the veterinarian and then driven up the city mountain in a jeep by the master huntsman.

At around 6:30 a.m., emergency services were called. “We have been requested to provide support,” said the operations manager of the Salzburg professional fire brigade, Daniel Fellner, in the APA interview. In order to be able to catch the chamois, she was stunned by the vet with the help of a blowpipe.

At 8.30 a.m. the animal mission was already over. “The chamois has been returned to the wild,” said Fellner. The mini-population on the 200-meter-high city hill includes around a dozen animals.
