The US will create a site to document Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine

“The Department of State is launching a Conflict Observatory to collect open source evidence of the atrocities of the Russian government in Ukraine,” the secretary in charge of US diplomacy published on its Twitter social network account.

And I add: “Robust and accessible evidence collection will help accountability efforts and assist future prosecutions.”

In turn, the Biden administration statement commented that the information and documentation collected will be shared on an “online platform” and reiterated that they will be intended to “help refute Russia’s disinformation efforts,”

For his part, the secretary of that portfolio, Antony Blinken, also commented on the launch of the observatory on his Twitter account: “We support a variety of initiatives to document crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.”

According to Blinken, Conflict Watch will “capture and shed light on open source evidence of Russian war crimes and other atrocities being committed in Ukraine.”

In April, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, described his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, as “war criminal” and “butcher”, going further than his own government in deeming Moscow to be perpetrating “genocide” in Ukraine following allegations of widespread killings of civilians in the town of Bucha.

The dissemination of photos of numerous “bodies of Ukrainians lying in the streets of Bucha and thrown into mass graves” that circulated around the world, some with their hands tied behind their backs, caused a wave of international outrage although Moscow described it as a farce and a ploy. Ukrainian to damage the Russian image and promote actions against it.
