Chancellor Karl Nehammer (VP) and Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) once again thanked the outgoing ministers Elisabeth Köstinger and Margarete Schramböck. Kogler urged respect for the exercise of the offices and gave Köstinger roses for their fight for fair food prices. Her successor is no stranger to Parliament. Totschnig described having started in 2001 as an assistant to a VP mandate in the House, and assured MPs to uphold parliamentarianism. Labor and Economics Minister Martin Kocher promised to continue to act objectively and calmly.
In parliament, on the other hand, the mood was heated. SP club vice Jörg Leichtfried justified the new election application with the incompetence of the government. VP club chairman August Wöginger then countered: “We will finish this second half, whether you want it or not.”
FP club chairman Herbert Kickl launched a sweeping attack against the government. When he called Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (VP) a total failure, the second President of the National Council, Doris Bures (SP), intervened and asked him to respect the dignity of the house. The green club chairwoman Sigrid Maurer was the next speaker to take the podium. “What qualifies you?” she asked Kickl. He dropped out of two studies, and his time as Minister of the Interior was the biggest mistake.
Neos boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger said, based on the regulars’ table level that sometimes prevails in parliament: “Hearst Herbert, please be quiet amol.” The Neos were the only opposition party not calling for new elections.
